Cost-Benefit Analyisis of Global Warming

If anyone's ever read my rants on global warming, the primary point I continue to drive home is the cost-benefit analysis of doing something as opposed to nothing. Below is a video response to another video called Junk Science: Global Warming Myth Busted. The junk one is some couch potato doode with a fucking ball cap on trying to get all sciency on us. It's very looong, you can't see his power point, and to be honest, I didn't watch the whole thing. But let's assume what dirty hat guy says is true and what every free marketeer screams is true: That the worst possible scenario for action combating global warming is economic depression. However, you then must look at the worst possible scenario for doing NOTHING. That's what the video below does in simple terms. This video instead has a nerdy looking guy obviously holed up in his lab. I tend to favor the nerds as opposed to the goatee wearin' pieces of shit holed up in their living rooms. But that's just me.

This is our organizing hub for a National Day of Climate Action--April 14th, 2007. On this one spring day, there will be hundreds and hundreds of rallies all across the country. We hope to have gatherings in every state, and in many of America's most iconic places: on the levees in New Orleans, on top of the melting glaciers on Mt. Rainier, even underwater on the endangered coral reefs off Key West. We also need rallies outside churches, along the tide lines in our coastal cities, in cornfields and forests and on statehouse steps. Every group will be saying the same thing: "Step it up, Congress! Cut Carbon 80% by 2050."

Event Description: Three actions will be demostrated that individuals can take to personally slow global warming while encouraging Congress to take action are: running on biodiesel, renting pv solar arrays to GoSolar, and switching to flourescent bulbs for energy efficiency. WVBioFuels/Renewables, a co-op of individuals and institutions producing biodiesel and pursuing other non "fossilfuelish" fuels and energies will hold a demonstration of biodiesel production and of solar, and will have flourescent bulbs available for purchase. The solar demonstration will show how netmetering , newly implemented by the Public Service Commission in WV in January, and a new enterprise providing rental units of pv solar arrays to homeowners, will allow solar, and then wind, to go from "alternative" to mainstream. The amount of carbon that will be avoided per year by 100 Charleston area homeowners already signed up to rent and GoSolar will be demonstrated.

Supreme Court Sides Against Bush In Global Warming Case

The Supreme Court has ruled that the federal government has the authority to regulate greenhouse gases linked to global warming.

Frank O'Donnell of Clean Air Watch writes, "The Supreme Court has confirmed that carbon dioxide can be controlled under the Clean Air Act. That means California and other states have the clear right to limit greenhouse gas emissions if the Bush administration won't."

This is a great step forward. Now the same court that gave President Moron his job acknowledges that global warming is a real problem. Think Progress and SCOTUS Blog has more.

Lelouch's Rendezvous With Google Maps

Ok, this kinda dumb but kinda kewl if you like movie editing and fast cars. I happened upon this site a while back and found a neat little thing to watch when you have absolutely nothing else to do. From the panopticist.com:

"Early on a summer morning in 1978, the French filmmaker Claude Lelouch attached a gyro-stabilized camera to the front of a Ferrari 275GTB. He turned on the camera and handed the car keys to a professional racecar driver, who fired up the engine and then sped through the center of Paris at about 140 miles per hour. The resulting eight- minute film, C'etait un rendezvous, is a classic. Thanks to Google Video and YouTube, it's gotten a lot of web attention in recent months. But here's something new: A blogger named Brian Hendrix has created a Google Maps mashup that displays the car's location on a map as the driver rockets himself through Paris.
Lelouch has apparently claimed that it was he who was behind the wheel; he supposedly also said that the car was a Mercedes, not a Ferrari, and that the sounds of a Ferrari were overdubbed later. But I don't have the energy to investigate whether (a) he actually claimed these things or (b) the claims are actually true."

So check out the google map thingummajig and follow the instructions to view the film snippet and the google map at the same time. One interesting side note: The filmmaker was unable to get a permit to get the streets closed. Crazy!

If you are a big conspiracy nut like I am, then you'll enjoy the House Oversight Hearing that was held this past Monday concerning Global Warming. They took testimony from Philip Cooney, the douchebag who would edit out NASA scientist James Hansen's reports to the gobment. Not only was Cooney NOT a scientist, but he's a lobbyist for the oil companies.

Anyway, Global Warming is such a huge hoax that the Pentagon has finally admitted that it's real and the House is actually holding totally major hearings that you can view here and here. Check out this site for way more kick ass political TV.

(I've yet to figure out how to make the youtube video appear on the page. Wish I had some contributing editors to help me out). :(

What happens when a radio talk show host loses their job? Answer: They either call up their old band mates in hopes of a rawkin' summer tour, or they get enough free time to play Decider on a local West Virginia message board. Unfortunately, his show was subsequently cancelled. Hopefully the board doesn't end up going with the show, because it is a very insightful place to talk to ubercons.
